It’s hard to believe that Hobbit is turning six this year. It honestly seems like yesterday that I was given a weirdo kitten that no one ever dreamed of wanting.
How much things change!
We’re not having a party this year because Hobbit wants to save up her money to visit Disney World. She’s tired of having Pirates of the Caribbean parties here when she can go to Orlando and see the actual ride.
You can still send catnip or treats, though.

Although I love the sleek design of my Gallery theme, I think the necessity of finding two images per post was keeping me from posting as much as I’d like.
I’ve pared it down a bit, but kept a few features I liked best. We’ll see how long it lasts.
I intend to return to the wonderful world of fandom posting soon, but I just wanted to note a few things as we begin the new year.
I start a new job next week. This is HUGE for me, as I am leaving a position that is comfortable both professionally and personally. I can only hope the excitement of the new position will help overshadow any shortcomings that may come socially.
Speaking of socially…WOW! Since we’ve been out three weeks due to scheduled Winter Break and then plenty of snow days, I think it’s not too geeky to say when it snows it pours! There’s finally a little action from the eHarmony end, an open offer on the local end, and I’ve just had a fantastic (friends only) weekend with the promise of more to come (I have Doctor Who Third Doctor DVDs as ransom….mwa ha ha ha). I’d have to say that right now life is good.
Next post–FANDOM LOVE. I promise.

Even though the title of this post sounds like a very bad serial fanfic, it describes my plans for Labor Day weekend.
By my observation, Hobbit has been having excessive thirst and frequent trips to the litter box, the primary combo symptoms of feline diabetes. Maybe I’m just being overcautious (and I hope I am), but she has an appointment tomorrow. I hope they just take a few labs, perform an office exam, and send us home. I have no reason to think they’ll want to keep her (since they’re closed Sunday and Monday), so we should be fine on that front.
I’ll update later, but Hobbit says that if you’d like to send donations for catnip, she does accept PayPal.

Listen up: I’m going to say all this one (more) time and then I’m going to be finished with it. I HATE being like this and I’m pushing myself through it as quickly as possible.
I’m heart-hurt. I know I said I wasn’t, but that was a lie. I am. So, in order to celebrate this pitiful state of mind, I did what all girls do: I created a sad playlist to remind me just how sad I am.
1. “On Fire” by Switchfoot (on repeat)
2. “Somewhere Only We Know” by Keane
3. “Say Hello, Wave Goodbye” by David Gray (on repeat)
4. “Make it Go Away” by Holly Cole
5. “Angel” by Dave Matthews Band
6. “Run” by Snow Patrol
7. “Love is the End” by Keane
8. “Set The Fire to the Third Bar” by Snow Patrol
9. “Back to Good” by Matchbox 20
10 “The Day All My Dreams Came True” Great Expectations Soundtrack
So there it is. Only a few actual “sad” songs, but songs that for one reason or another make me sad.
I’m pretty sure I’ll be back to normal tomorrow. Thanks for all the support! *hugs*

Special interest groups claim that children smoke because they see it onscreen. I don’t know about that, but I know that as a coffee drinker, I have a hard time seeing people drink coffee without wanting a big cup for myself. I can’t even try to watch a Season 1 episode of Ugly Betty without wanting a coffee and a bagel (to which I now watch prepared-everything bagel/cream cheese and latte).
I’ve now found that it’s impossible for me to read Charlaine Harris without craving coffee by the gallon. Maybe it’s the “Southerness” of it all, but Sookie, and now Harper, are forever making and/or drinking coffee, which in turn, means that I am forever making and drinking it. I’m starting to think that even I, with my strong addiction and tolerance of caffeine, may just be affected by this increased uptake and that’s why I’m no longer able to go to sleep until 2-3am. Hmmmm.

Two things happened today, and I’m not which has set Hobbit completely off. First, I ruined my hair. As in, butchered it while trying to cut it myself. I had to get an emergency appointment and found out that my usual repairman has quit the salon. Oh no. The new stylist cut my hair into the most stereotypical hillbilly lesbionic do that all I needed was a flannel shirt and some Birkenstocks. Seriously. I had to have her cut it really short all over. Mia Farrow in Rosemary’s Baby looks like freakin’ Rapunzel next to me. Heh. I’ll really like it in a couple of weeks, though, so I didn’t get too upset.
The second event was that Istar met a new veterinarian today. We both liked her a lot, and he got his seasonal steroid shot to combat his asthma. He still weighs over 18lbs., but at least he hasn’t gained any weight since November. He’s currently resting in his bed and seems to feel just fine.
Diva Hobbit, however, has not stopped hissing since we got home. I was home for only a few minutes between the salon and the vet, so I didn’t really spend any time with her prior to his appointment. I can’t be certain if she’s hissing at Istar or me. She’s about one more hiss away from getting her little butt spanked. The last thing Istar needs is to fight after having to visit the vet, and the last thing I need is a reminder that my head looks scary. So, yeah. Stop it, Hobbit!
