New Year, New Look, New Everything

Although I love the sleek design of my Gallery theme, I think the necessity of finding two images per post was keeping me from posting as much as I’d like.

I’ve pared it down a bit, but kept a few features I liked best. We’ll see how long it lasts.

I intend to return to the wonderful world of fandom posting soon, but I just wanted to note a few things as we begin the new year.

I start a new job next week. This is HUGE for me, as I am leaving a position that is comfortable both professionally and personally. I can only hope the excitement of the new position will help overshadow any shortcomings that may come socially.

Speaking of socially…WOW! Since we’ve been out three weeks due to scheduled Winter Break and then plenty of snow days, I think it’s not too geeky to say when it snows it pours! There’s finally a little action from the eHarmony end, an open offer on the local end, and I’ve just had a fantastic (friends only) weekend with the promise of more to come (I have Doctor Who Third Doctor DVDs as ransom….mwa ha ha ha). I’d have to say that right now life is good.

Next post–FANDOM LOVE. I promise.

Arrgh, Good Sir

For the first time in five years, I’m not a Golden Knight. The change in jobs has made me a Buccaneer, though I suspect I will remain a Golden Knight at heart forever. With the exception of missing my students tremendously, I am loving the new school. I had heard some pretty disparaging remarks about the new school, but I have found it to be nothing short of fantastic. For instance, I asked for a USB printer cable. My principal announced my request at a staff meeting, and in no time, THREE cables had shown up in my office. Similar requests at my beloved school resulted in comments such as, “What the hell is that?” or “Get it yourself.” Heh. Maybe we were too much like family, I don’t know…

I’ll post a picture of the awesome mural inside the school once I get a decent camera working. It’s literally filled with pirates and it reminds me of our Dragon*Con badges from a few years ago.

JOYOUS

Harper's Island Pretty cool. I definitely didn’t pick the victim this week! In addition to my previous cast mentions, I have to add Dale from the recent Flash Gordon adaptation. Geeks everywhere were like, “Hey!” The show didn’t rock my whole world, but it was just engaging enough to make me feel certain that I’ll be back next week. In this day and age, that’s almost as much as I can hope for.

whologo.jpg The new Doctor Who special, “The Planet of the Dead” airs tomorrow. Hoorah! Though I’m looking forward to it, it’s nowhere near the excitement I had week after week when the show was on weekly. I really don’t care for this format, AT ALL. I would rather have had an abbreviated season a la Torchwood than these (possibly) disjointed specials. That said, yay for new Who!

Yay, also, for having Spring Break….finally!

And So It Gets Better

Work is becoming nearly fun again. We’ve defined our priorities, and though they are not my own personal priorities, I will go along with them. Maybe this Spring’s “Blah Bout” is going to be the shortest-lived yet! I’m feeling quite optimistic about most things, and though we all want things we can never have (NIN reference, y’all), that’s what keeps our devious little minds going.

Ben is coming down for a quick visit later and we get Legend of the Seeker, Robin Hood, and Primeval today. Not bad at all!
