This weekend, Ben came down and we had one of our “old times” days. We ate at Macado’s, shopped around the mall, watched Robin Hood, True Blood, The Backyardigans (sorry, Ben!), Dexter, and RHNJ. There are probably more, but that’s all I can remember this late in the game. Our visit to Macado’s was made even better by the bill coming to -$.04. Christmas gift card in action! Our trip to Border’s was also made better by yet another old gift card. My purchase of Percy Jackson & The Olympians: The Demigod Files and the Doctor Who Magazine? FREE as well. Woot! I saw a few of “my kids” which made the day even better. Good times!

Monday, Flo came up and we, too, went to Macado’s and the mall. While nothing was free, I was able to spot some wicked new shoes to purchase. I got a pair of K-Swiss sneakers and some brown utility shoes. I also splurged on some white gold hoops. LOVE them. Flo and I talked a little school, a little fashion, and a little crap about others. All-in-all? Another great day.

The fam is still on vacation, so I’m on pet patrol. It’s my job to check on everyone’s cats and make sure they are fed, watered, and litterbox ready. I feel so important.

This is a really old picture, but it’s fine because we are really old friends. On this day, many, many years ago, the most clever, witty, loyal, ginger, etc. baby was born. Though no one knew it at the time, he would grow up to inspire a generation to see the humor and beauty in others’ suffering and humiliation.

Visits and Viewing

That was good. Though I had a moment of “I miss Will,” I was really pleased with the season premiere of Robin Hood. Actually, I’m still smiling and so relieved that it has taken on a new vibe, but held to the core purpose. I can’t wait for more! As usual, I’m still holding Legend of the Seeker until later today, so perhaps after viewing Seeker and Primeval, I’ll have even more to babble about.

Ben’s visit was the best in years. We had El Mariachi, shopping, Starbucks chai lattes, and fun with component cables. Truthfully, I fixed the problem with the DVD player this morning, but I could not have done it without Ben’s help from last night. He connected the cables expertly, but I neglected to check the settings on just one thing; the DVD player itself. After waking with this revelation, I reconnected everything just as he had done, changed the settings and BAM! Awesome picture. I just had to watch Robin Hood again at that point (you know, just to check out the cables ). Thanks, Ben!!

And So It Gets Better

Work is becoming nearly fun again. We’ve defined our priorities, and though they are not my own personal priorities, I will go along with them. Maybe this Spring’s “Blah Bout” is going to be the shortest-lived yet! I’m feeling quite optimistic about most things, and though we all want things we can never have (NIN reference, y’all), that’s what keeps our devious little minds going.

Ben is coming down for a quick visit later and we get Legend of the Seeker, Robin Hood, and Primeval today. Not bad at all!

My Ashley is engaged! I just don’t even know where to begin here. It seems like yesterday we were obsessing over Anakin and Harry Potter and here she is, all grown up. Here’s to a lifetime of love come easy and happiness.

My Ben is free! Free from the martyred whining and shortcomings of the less intelligent. May he find happiness with anyone, so long as it’s not in the form of a bitter, histrionics-prone, lunatic.

LOTS

If you asked me if I love this show, I would say LOTS; and that would be both true and clever. Think, think, think about it. Ahh, that’s it. I’ve read just a few bits of fandom’s response to the whole books v. show thing, and overall, the fans seem pleased enough. Apparently they were happy with Denna, but unhappy with the ending of the episode by the same name. I guess that’s how nearly every adaptation works out.

I’m heading to Ben’s town tomorrow, but only for work. We’re expecting a spot of bad weather, so I’m going up and back. My nephew’s birthday is Saturday and because we all went insane at Christmas with presents, there isn’t much left to get him. I was going to shop, but I guess I’ll just sleep in a bit now.

Ooh, speaking of insane, I’m wondering if there’s going to be a mass exodus to insanejournal now that LJ is seemingly on its last legs. I registered today, so if you’re going to make an account, add me. Same name as LJ

Driving Me Crazy

I crashed my car. Actually, more embarrassingly, I hit a parked car. I crunched the front end of my side panel and bumper while scraping their rear bumper. I left a note, which is frustrating, because I have no way of knowing just what their reaction and expectations will be. They haven’t left a voicemail yet, so maybe they’re not too upset? Right? Bah.

In much happier, or somewhat bittersweeter, news, I got to see Ben, Jesse, and Jonas! I also got Heroes Seasons 1 and 2, a cool Christmas mixtape, and a really cool card. Hooray! Thanks guys! The bitter part is that Jesse leaves for Morgantown soon and I may not get to see him soon, and I probably won’t see Jonas anymore at all. :cry: I wish at least one of my cats would be as loving as Jonas, but it just is NOT going to happen. They are so used to ignoring all humans other than me that they will never be that friendly. Oh, how I damage everything around me.

Lazy Posting

I’ve let a lot go by without mentioning it on here. Now that I’ve closed ZeroMuch (well, archived it), I’ll try to write more. Rejoice.

Recently, I’ve had a mini-vacation to TN, seen Ben and Jesse, had poison ivy all over my face (second doctor’s visit in a month…yay), and waited for my grandmother’s surgery to stop giving her problems. I found a really cool Zune clock to add to HobStar (my Zune), so I’m really happy about that. I don’t wear a watch and my sorry TracFone is just not something I’m willing to whip out everytime I want to check the time. Having a clock on my Zune will be perfect because now I can watch Shaun of the Dead AND time the AP exams properly. Heh.

Television-wise, we’re gearing up for a late Summer viewing schedule which includes old Star Trek: Voyager, SGA, Project Runway, Big Brother, and Shear Genius. I’m not overly enthused with the newer shows, especially SGA. I seriously think that unless they lose Dr. Keller, my viewing days are limited. I hate that a show that has meant so much to me has brought about so much disgust, but I can’t help it; she just grates.

Monster.com’s latest television ad is genius. As a whole town mobilizes for war in the dark, complete with dramatic music and promise of epic battle, we see that it is MONDAY they are fighting. Heh. Good, no, GREAT stuff. I love that one.

What a week we had last week! Monday was pretty ordinary; benchmark testing at school. Tuesday was great, as I spent nearly all of the day with my seniors. Wednesday I got to spend a small sliver of time with Ben and Jonas before a great class at MU. I feared that class, but I now think it’s going to be fine. *whew* Thursday was a snowday. Whoo! Friday was a counselor collaboration meeting, and though only two schools could make it in, we covered a huge amount of ground and I feel great about it.

I have a salon appointment today and I’m thinking of cutting my hair short again. I’m tired of the pseudo-Carter cut and now that Amanda Tapping has grown her hair out, I know I definitely don’t want to follow suit. I think I’ll try to go Yoanna style, Cycle 2 of ANTM. (Stop rolling your eyes, Ben!)

My cousin Ashley and her husband Caleb are due here any minute to learn all about the fascinating world of web design and I’ve made graphs, visual aids, and step-by-step instructions. We’ll see how good they are when Ashley either A) makes her own site or B) goes bald from pulling out her hair.

It’s a snowday! It’s also frigid out there. Not frigid, however is Lady Chatterley. Thanks to Jonas, my longest standing Amazon wishlist item is MINE! From the hundreds of screencaps I’ve seen of Sean Bean as Mellors, I can tell that it’s going to be amazing. I’m using the DVD as a reward for packing up the Christmas things and getting the kitchen back in order.

Thanks to Ben and Jesse, I am the extremely proud owner of the 2008 LOTR Wall Calendar, which now fetches $100 on the street. A three disc collection of Planes, Trains, and Automobiles, Summer Rental, and Foul Play makes the holiday complete.

New Year, Old Friends

Ben and Jesse made it down for my first ever New Year’s Bash. Yes, bash is too strong a word, but it was still great. The menu turned out to be quite an eclectic group of nibbly things. We had three types of hummus, warm pita, taco fiesta dip, salsa con queso and bean dip, veggie taquitos, pizza rolls, cheese sticks, cheese balls, celery, Mom’s homemade biscuits (my personal fave), ham, and for the meat eaters- little smokie pigs in blankets and the vegetarian, veggie weiner pigs in blankets. I made a pumpkin pudding trifle and a Reece’s dessert. We have so much food left. Come get some food. Please.

Hobbit spent much of the night being a lot more sociable than usual, but Istar must have fallen asleep under the bed; we didn’t see much of him at all. Even though Ben and Jesse were missing Jonas, they were great to Da Hobb–Ben didn’t even step on her We watched the ball drop, The Doctor Who Christmas Special, bits of a Radiohead performance, Di’s amazing vid “Scattered” (after finding out the lead singers of Radiohead and Muse are brothers), and some Project Runway episodes.

The forecast calls for up to a foot of snow, or alternately, flurries. I tend to believe the flurry forecast because we are looking at the bluest skies I’ve seen in a while. I’m still hoping for snow to go along with the cold.

Doctor Who Christmas Special- I’m going to have to go with, um, bad. Didn’t enjoy it much at all. Kylie Minogue was flat and The Doctor had too many messianic moments, especially coming off the whole last Series ender. Sill looking forward to the new Series, though.

Stargate: Ark of Truth (waaay early) was awesome. It felt like a comfortable extended episode and I will be buying it as soon as it hits the shelves in March/April.

Ben and Jesse are slated to attend my first ever New Year’s Party, and I hope they do indeed make it down. Hobbit, Istar, and I have already begun planning a menu. If the guys can’t make it down, there will be lots of food to go around.

No, not Christmas wishes. Here’s to a painless recovery for Goober, a Happy Birthday (tomorrow) for Jamie, no more trips to the ER for Scott or Jamie, and a better episode of Heroes tomorrow. I hate Elle. I honestly gave her (and Kristen Bell) a chance, but nope, HATE them both. I wish she would die. Seriously (just the character).

I continue to love Robin Hood. A lot. Some of the cast are rumored to have signed on for Series 3, which is great news. I hate that British shows are so short. The seasons are short and the run of the show is short. With a few exceptions, all the great shows are gone in no time; Spaced and The Office come to mind immediately. I expect we’ll be getting the Doctor Who Christmas special soon, though I haven’t checked out the date yet.

Huge thanks to my Mom, who not only turned my kitchen into a supermarket, but who also turned my wallet into a bank. She’s got magical powers, that one.

Istar’s vet visit went as expected. He’s now a whopping 17lbs. and he received another steroid injection as well as an antibiotic just in case he has a respiratory infection to boot. Too bad he prefers to wear the medicine as to swallow it. Oh well, we’ll keep trying. Hobbit hissed up a fit when he came home, but she seems to be over her little diva stunt….for now.
