Please explain to me why my DVR was set to record Ugly Betty just as it always does, the guide showed Ugly Betty (with a full description of the episode), and what ABC showed was Scrubs (which I hated the first time around when it was on NBC). Boo. Hiss.

I am so disappointed. I am also so disappointed in Demons. I really wanted to like it. I thought when I saw Ella from Hex that maybe something cool would happen this week. WRONG. I’m not going to be burning this show unless I get a request now-ish. I’d rather have the space on my hard drive. Boo. Again.

Cage’s birthday party was earlier today, and for there to have been over 20 people there, it felt smallish and nice. He’s 9 years old now, and his sister, Scotti, is 9 months old. Pretty cool. He’s so awesome, and even though he was feeling under the weather, he played his part well. Happy Birthday, Cage!

LOTS

If you asked me if I love this show, I would say LOTS; and that would be both true and clever. Think, think, think about it. Ahh, that’s it. I’ve read just a few bits of fandom’s response to the whole books v. show thing, and overall, the fans seem pleased enough. Apparently they were happy with Denna, but unhappy with the ending of the episode by the same name. I guess that’s how nearly every adaptation works out.

I’m heading to Ben’s town tomorrow, but only for work. We’re expecting a spot of bad weather, so I’m going up and back. My nephew’s birthday is Saturday and because we all went insane at Christmas with presents, there isn’t much left to get him. I was going to shop, but I guess I’ll just sleep in a bit now.

Ooh, speaking of insane, I’m wondering if there’s going to be a mass exodus to insanejournal now that LJ is seemingly on its last legs. I registered today, so if you’re going to make an account, add me. Same name as LJ

Busy Day

I really shouldn’t say that I had a busy day because out of everyone, I had the easiest time. Scott and Jamie are finishing the upgrades to their new house and without air conditioning (which installs today), it was too hot for the kids to be there. Aunt Jenn to the rescue! Cage and Scotti stayed with me all day yesterday and we had a blast. Well, Cage and I did; Scotti slept most of the day.

Big Wednesday night TV viewing. Hopefully, we’ll see the last of Mango. So many people are anti-Suede that they’re missing out on the true buffoon. Look past the blue and see the MANGO, people!

Scotti Lee Miller was born April 1, 2008 at 7:00pm. She weighs in at 8lbs. and owns the runway with her 21 1/4 inch height. Even though she’s a month earlier than first projected, she already looks around, plays with the cord to her heart monitor and enjoys passing secret spit bubble messages with her brother, Cage. She has her mom’s full head of dark hair and her dad’s eyes and lips (we’re talking Jolie territory here). Mother, father, and daughter are fine and should be home in a day or two.

She’s perfect, and I’m so proud to be Aunt Jenn to my little niece!

My (all too brief) visit with Narayan was just as I expected, full of juvenile humor and uncontrollable laughter. I’m happy to see that he hasn’t lost a lot of weight during his latest trip to Asia since he normally looks too skinny when he returns. For anyone interested, some of his photographs can be seen at NarayanMahon.com I’m sure none of the recent pics are up yet, and most of my favorites aren’t on his site yet, but can be seen at his generic hosting site, here.

Tomorrow, I get to play “Aunt Jenn” to Cage since my brother and his wife are at a golf tournament my brother is playing in. It’s the Coca-Cola something or other and only 5 amateurs were invited to play for the chance to play on the pro circuit next year. It’s a huge deal for him and regardless of the outcome, he’s really done well!

Ooh, my new principal was announced today (well, the assistant superintendent told me who it is, I don’t know if it’s been announced publicly or not). He seems like an OK guy from what we’ve heard. He’s a bodybuilder and former title winning coach, so maybe he’ll have the right blend of characteristics to whip our school into shape.

I haven’t commented much on this season of Doctor Who, but I have to admit that some of the eps have been just terrific. I especially like “Blink” and the kooky new Master. If Tennant wasn’t such a loon, I don’t know if I’d find The Master menacing enough, but with both of them running around like demented 8 year olds, I guess it works in a bizarre kind of way. I’m actually dreading the season finale since it means that we’ll have to wait until Christmas for more. I’m sure I’ll just break out the 9th DVD and tide myself over.

Howdy, Stranger

Where have I been? SICK. I finished my first assignment, second assignment, and lots of work from my job, but I got a bit of a cold in there somewhere and I’ve been out of it. I’ve also been quite addicted to Treasures of Montezuma, a Bejeweled kind of game. I’ve beaten it 8 times now. My whole family is playing nonstop and so far only Scott has beaten it, too. He’s playing on a laptop with no mouse, so I KNOW if he had a mouse he would have beaten it in no time. As it is, I am the champion of the world.

Yesterday, Cage wanted so Naruto cards, so we took him to get some and I had a chance to see Ashley. Yay!! Hope you got to see 300, hon! Next weekend I’m in Charleston for class, but if this cold isn’t completely gone, I’m not even going to ask my favorite guys for a place to bunk. I’ve got a ton of work to do for that class and may actually start on it today if my cough medicine will stop knocking me out. Pfft.

Another Year Something

Thanks for the birthday wishes! This was actually one of the more enjoyable birthdays of recent years. I got my early gifts from Ben and Jesse, super-cool post from Ben on LJ, socks and Borders gift card from Scott and Jamie, and a cool diecast metal AT-AT from Cage. Mrs. Bush (the other counselor at work) got me a caramel pound cake and Mom made my candle cake. The family ate out and had a pleasant time. Hobbit and Istar held a rowdy party last night, and Istar must have hit the hooch a little too much because he kept wanting to get in the fireplace. He’s a little nutty, that one!

I was going to see the MVHS production of Steel Magnolias, but since we have several inches of snow, it’s been postponed. Now I can do that work I had planned on doing yesterday. Ooh, and I still have to finish my assignment for class.

I was responsible for my nephew, Cage, for two and a half days and OMG am I tired. Seriously, how do people manage? He’s probably the most lovable, intelligent, adorable six-year-old ever, but he damn near killed me. I’m more convinced than ever that I don’t want kids, not because of Cage, just because of my low energy level.

I am pleased, however, to announce that I have recruited a miniature sci-fi fan in Cage. He loved SGA and Doctor Who, and that just makes me so proud! He already loves Star Wars and Harry Potter, so we had a blast hanging out. We watched Superman Returns, which he was kind of meh about (and so was I), oh, and he LOVES vids. His favorite was the Spiderman vid listed on Fanvid-Recs. Yes, he’s a great kid and he’s so frellin’ cute!!

My aunt and cousin from Ft. Lauderdale are in, as are my uncle and aunt from Knoxville, so we’re having a bit of a family reunion this weekend. Unfortunately, they all ventured down to their childhood hometown and won’t be back in time for dinner, so I’m on my own for tonight. Hmmm…what to eat in preparation of STARGATE night?!?!?

p.s. I’m on an Egyptian kick again, so default theme? Egyptian

p.p.s. Going from the fridge to the cupboard and back is NOT helping dinner selection. Food has not, and will not, magically appear.

p.p.p.s.Â Narayan isn’t coming to visit.Â Eh, f’ him.

The New Family

I *did* say life-changing events, eh? Well, here are a couple of pictures of my brother’s wedding. The first is of Scott, Jamie, and Cage (my new nephew!), and the second is obviously of Scott and Jamie. The ceremony was held on the beach and thankfully, the rain held off until we were trying to take pictures. Luckily, my brother is superstitious and the old saying about rain on your wedding day being good luck brought him some comfort.

Home Again

Wow, I’ve been back for awhile, but I just didn’t feel like posting, I guess. NYC was unbelievable. xash13x should kick me in the head for not enjoying it more and being downright rude to her for much of the trip. Our students were amazing- taking in the culture and excitement of the city. Our other chaperones were hellish- petty, bitter, condescending, biased, you name it.

“Chicago” put me to sleep. Literally. The theatre it played in was so small that it *has* to be the lower limit of Broadway, but we had orchestra seats, so that was nice. It’s just b.o.r.i.n.g. “Lestat” was by far the more enjoyable production. We saw it in the Palace Theatre and although we were in the nosebleed section, we (students and cool people) loved it. After hearing several tepid reviews, our expectations were lowered, which may be a contributing factor to our appreciation of the play. The sets and costumes were stunning and really inspired our theatre department. I was thrilled to see the kids enjoying it. Damn near moved to tears, even.

I spent some time in The Village, Chinatown, Times Square, Ellis Island, and Liberty Island, and like the kids, I was amazed at just how easily we all integrated into each segment. This trip really opened the eyes of all of us and if we can do it again (without parents and self-righteous adults), I’m all for it. I have a few pics on my site for anyone interested in boring stuff.

Oh, I almost forgot! When I came home, I learned that my brother is engaged! Her name is Jamie, though I call her James just because it sounds cooler, she teaches school with him, and she has a little boy named Cage. I’m going to be an aunt! In August! Yippee!!
