Exercise in Futility

At the end of the school year, I requested a database so I could convert our school’s site to WP. I didn’t hear anything, but I figured I was in no rush since I had to come up with a good layout and design. Well, today I finished it (and it looks spectacular, if I do say so myself). I emailed the tech people to get my database and was promptly told that they are buying some package for all the schools to use and I can’t have a database. Seriously,I’ve worked hours on this and though I know it’s my fault for not having the database from the start, I had no reason to believe it would never come through. Also, WordPress is free…and relatively easy to learn. Instead, we’ll have some FrontPage-type application, or worse.

I’m just really sad that I’m not going to be able to do the site afterall. I’m really not interested in stepping down to a Fisher-Price level and I don’t want to get involved with something like Joomla, which is what they’re using at their office. Shucks. Anyone want a really good school site theme?

Surgicallistic

Well, my grandmother goes under the knife again today. This sucks. Mom has been going non-stop since the last week of June. She needs a break, but there’s no way she’ll take one. She’s in NC again, for the second time in two weeks, after getting only 10 minutes to prepare to leave the first time after coming home from TN. She’s sleeping in the hospital chair in my grandmother’s room, and I’m sure she’s not eating well. I just want her home. Scott is headed to Lewisburg to qualify for the WV Amateur (or Open, I don’t know which) and Dad is just going about his normal things, albeit much lonlier than usual.

I was so confused yesterday that I thought it was Wednesday already. In a small, small way, I’m almost looking forward to going back to work. No, on second thought, strike that. I’m not.

Obligatory Gate Post

I’m back from my annual tech conference…and just in time! Had the conference gone any longer, I might have missed the chance to see the sneak release of SGA’s fifth season premiere.

Overall, I’m pleased with the episode. I hate to see Carter go, but since I’ve been watching Voyager twice a day for the last couple of months, I have an appreciation of The Doctor Woolsey. What I do not have an appreciation of, is the nasaly, whiny doctor we are stuck with, Dr. Keller. Too much airtime for her and I may seriously cut ties with this show. That she made it as a series regular, when they let Weir go makes me physically ill. The episode was pretty garden variety SGA, but with some weird planetary shots that went on a bit too long. Seeing Caldwell is ALWAYS a treat, and the Ford cameo was just “awwww”. We’ll see how this season goes…

Multi-Nothing

Spring break is here and I am taking full advantage of it. How, you ask? By doing lots of nothing. Unlike the number for nothing, “0”, actual nothings add up to a little bit of something. Here’s a little of what I’ve done so far:

Several naps (SEVERAL)
Learned a little about Julius Caesar and Nero (Nephew of Caligula…explains a lot!)
Finished a few assignments
Actively delayed remaining assignments
Fought off a cold
Started a Torchwood vid
Experienced four vid program crashes
Experienced power outage while vidding
Given up on Torchwood vid
Watched Voyager as much as possible
Watched horrible Odysseus movie on Sci-Fi
Wanted to watch The 10th Kingdom again
Tried to keep dropping in on Cage and Scotti to a minimum
Spent quality time with Hobbit and Istar
