Prepare for battle!

Monster.com’s latest television ad is genius. As a whole town mobilizes for war in the dark, complete with dramatic music and promise of epic battle, we see that it is MONDAY they are fighting. Heh. Good, no, GREAT stuff. I love that one.

What a week we had last week! Monday was pretty ordinary; benchmark testing at school. Tuesday was great, as I spent nearly all of the day with my seniors. Wednesday I got to spend a small sliver of time with Ben and Jonas before a great class at MU. I feared that class, but I now think it’s going to be fine. *whew* Thursday was a snowday. Whoo! Friday was a counselor collaboration meeting, and though only two schools could make it in, we covered a huge amount of ground and I feel great about it.

I have a salon appointment today and I’m thinking of cutting my hair short again. I’m tired of the pseudo-Carter cut and now that Amanda Tapping has grown her hair out, I know I definitely don’t want to follow suit. I think I’ll try to go Yoanna style, Cycle 2 of ANTM. (Stop rolling your eyes, Ben!)

My cousin Ashley and her husband Caleb are due here any minute to learn all about the fascinating world of web design and I’ve made graphs, visual aids, and step-by-step instructions. We’ll see how good they are when Ashley either A) makes her own site or B) goes bald from pulling out her hair.

You, Sir!

sween.jpg You, Sir, should see Sweeney Todd. Yes, there is gore, but it’s more of a theatrical sort; not too bad. Oh, and yes, it sometimes feels like “Willy Scissorhands Sparrow”. There is, however, one sequence where Depp transcends everything he’s ever done and becomes the face of madness. The street sequence may possibly be my favorite scene of the year; hell, of the decade! I’m not normally one to swoon over him, but in that moment of crazed desire for vengeance, I can see the attraction.

Thanks, Flo, for dragging me to Beckley to see the movie. I’m thrilled that I did.

Seconds, anyone?   :smoke:

Greatest Song EVER

It’s been over two decades since Band Aid’s masterful Christmas song “Do They Know It’s Christmas” was released. It’s been nearly that long since I saw the video. Today, however, it all came flooding back to me while looking for holiday songs to burn to disc for Jamie.

I remember the pure, unadulterated (or was it adulterated?!?) glee I had watching the video trying to spot Simon Le Bon. I remember being disappointed that Simon didn’t have more lines and thinking that Boy George sure got a lot of play. I remember taping the music video on grainy VCR tapes and watching until the tapes damn near disintegrated. It really was all about Duran Duran in those days. Some days, it still is.

Today, even though it’s been decades, I found myself singing along, using the singers’ characteristics, from Simon’s throatiness, to Boy George’s effeminate offerings, to Sting’s clipped singing of “bitter sting of tears”. I then, on the bell rings, actually made the bell ringing motion in the air. You KNOW what I mean, because some of you do it, too. I know you do. I think Hobbit made a couple bell rings herself, and Istar is kind of dancing around to the tune just now. :elf:

I think I’ll head over to Hell YouTube and see if I can find a video of it.
