“We present Lord Rahl, the Seeker of Truth and wielder of the Sword of Truth, the bringer of death, the Master of D’Hara, the ruler of the Midlands, the commander of the gar nation, the champion of free people and bane of the wicked, and the betrothed of the Mother Confessor.”

Would Richard Rahl be my favorite character had I not read the entire Sword of Truth series twice this year? Maybe so. Is there any doubt that Richard Rahl is my favorite character since I have read the entire Sword of Truth series twice this year? Definitely not.

“Boy fulfills destiny” is a brilliant concept, and one that I have enjoyed many times (Luke, Harry, Frodo, Eragon, Percy, et al.). Richard’s fate is far more complex than the others, and that’s what makes him my favorite character. Is he perfect? Nearly, but he can be rather singleminded (a trait which often serves him well, but when it doesn’t….oh, boy.) I think the things I love most about him are the little things; the way he “calls the target” to himself, the way he dances with death, the way he subjugates himself to make others better themselves, the value he places on those around him, and I could go on and on at this point….

Craig Horner, as TV!Richard gives us a good “face to go with a name” and I wish the television series could have gone on longer if for no other reason, to touch on the EPICNESS of the novels. Terry Goodkind, who gives us Book!Richard is the true hero, however, and I can’t wait for The Omen Machine to be released so I can get even more of my favorite character.

The fanvids that have been rolled out during the campaign have been inspiring and demonstrative of just how loyal fans of Legend of the Seeker can be.

I have three that stay on loop. Spiegelwelt’s epic Protectors of the Earth is a very busy vid, but don’t give up…the ending is breathtaking. Jane Doh’s Season 3 Campaign vid makes the best argument to potential new fans while giving current fans plenty of reminders why we love our show. Pat’s Acts of Courage vid wasn’t made as part of the “Save Our Seeker” campaign, but serves nicely as a primer/reminder as well. It’s so magnificent and epic that I have to remind myself it uses only S1 clips.

Go watch each of these exciting vids and let the vidders know you appreciate their efforts to Save Our Seeker!

The show has taken a darker turn in the second season of the television show, but can never begin to touch the themes of the book series. This is NOT your young adult series, and it’s actually been a very welcomed surprise.

There are many differences that I’m sure are chronicled all over the net, so there isn’t much need for me to do the same here. I think that even in their differences, the two mediums compliment each other nicely. I do, and will always, defer to the canon of the source material, but having faces to go with names has been very nice. I find that my focus is no longer the shipping of Richard/Kahlan (though I still do), but rather the appreciation of the time and the desire to learn more of the lands and legends. Many of the weekly stories are clearly derived from events in the books, though the importance of the elements isn’t always apparent on the show. I’m surprised that the Mud People weren’t included in the television series at all, but that would be a season all to itself. I’m still looking forward to meeting new characters though, especially since I have the added interest of comparing their adventures. Overall, the characters are pretty true to their written creations, but I think the two characters that characters that I never pause to associate with their TV counterparts are Richard and Cara. I am starting the fifth book soon, so things could, of course, change, but I am really hopeful that Cara makes it to the end, and I’m pretty sure that Richard will. *wink*

In the end, I would say that I recommend the books for any fans of the television series (so long as you have pretty strong stomachs re: themes and gore). Here’s to finishing the series before getting spoiled any further!

Although I frequently hold episodes (sometimes for weeks) before watching, I am always pleased with this show. I squee every time there’s a R/K moment and laugh at Zedd’s zany idiosyncrasies. I get wrapped up in each episode’s adventure as if it’s a feature film, and the cinematography is stunning enough to make it feel like a feature at times.

I had a hard time leaving out Dexter, but I feel there is a lot more Dexter-love to come when the new season starts up. Harper’s Island has proven to be more fun than cerebral, but that’s acceptable. After all, it is the only show my brother and I love together.

With RL work kicking into noose-gear, I don’t know when I’ll have the hate post up, but I think you know which show will top that very long list….heh.

Let’s see, out of the last few chefs: Jamie-fun and lots of personality (GONE), Leah-female Hosea, blech (GONE), Fabio-cute and personable (GONE…boo). Chefs remaining: Stefan-hate if you want, I love his snarky style, Carla-literally crazy and fun, Hosea-a panting puppy (love me, love my food, huhuhu).

Lost was, apparently on this week. Survivor is still in the early rounds, so we don’t really get to know anyone yet. I think my love for Ugly Betty is now tainted by the news that America is a diva and very demanding on set. I’m not as into it as I was. TAR was good, but I’m already over the “human triumph” angle. Lose it…now. The SG-1 reruns on Sci-Fi finished Season 8 this week–undoubtedly the best shows I watched all week.

I’m holding my latest episode of Legend of the Seeker until I finish housework, otherwise, I’d probably be loving it in this very post.

In other news, I bought a Red Zune 80GB from a student this week. I’ve named it HobStar Red, and I’m debating giving HobStar to my brother, who has expressed a shocking interest in it. HobStar Red already contains everything that was on HobStar as well as all of S4 of Doctor Who. Gotta love that!

Legend of the Seeker has been renewed for a second season! Although the typical fanboys seem to hate it (see: AICN talkbacks), I’m thrilled. I’m also thrilled that di_br is vidding it as we speak. I enjoy this show, but not in a “Must See Now!” way, but once I get ready to watch each week, I’m never disappointed. Really, in this day and age, there are very few shows that can’t be considered “rip offs” of other shows, so why focus on that? I catch it via DVR through the WGN Network, but it’s also available on Hulu.

In much worse news, Ugly Betty as been backburnered. ABC wants to start a Thursday Night comedy block and Betty has been relegated to post-sweep status. Uh oh. This is potentially very bad news for us fans. However, with the status of PD and UB, I may just be able to let ABC go from my viewing in its entirety. Pfft.

If you asked me if I love this show, I would say LOTS; and that would be both true and clever. Think, think, think about it. Ahh, that’s it. I’ve read just a few bits of fandom’s response to the whole books v. show thing, and overall, the fans seem pleased enough. Apparently they were happy with Denna, but unhappy with the ending of the episode by the same name. I guess that’s how nearly every adaptation works out.

I’m heading to Ben’s town tomorrow, but only for work. We’re expecting a spot of bad weather, so I’m going up and back. My nephew’s birthday is Saturday and because we all went insane at Christmas with presents, there isn’t much left to get him. I was going to shop, but I guess I’ll just sleep in a bit now.

Ooh, speaking of insane, I’m wondering if there’s going to be a mass exodus to insanejournal now that LJ is seemingly on its last legs. I registered today, so if you’re going to make an account, add me. Same name as LJ

I haven’t said much about this show, but I have to admit that it is one of my favorites. This is my first time following a show that airs only in syndication, but I’m sure to catch every episode (DVR helps, of course). I haven’t read the book series the show is based on (The Sword of Truth), so I have the luxury of watching without criticizing, and maybe that’s part of my admiration. The cinematography is stunning and I like that the characters seem “real” in that they aren’t necessarily modelesque (though the 7th episode may challenge my notion on that front). If you find yourself with nothing to do this weekend, look the show up and give it a try.

I read this week that NBC is NOT going to show Merlin now, due to needing airtime to show more episodes of fat people trying to lose weight. Boo them. Not the fat people–NBC. For anyone wanting to see it, just let me know.

In continuing my geekish fandom posts, I’m going to start posting my “Top 5″ elements from various fandoms from now until the rest of year. I’d love to see if you share any of them! Check back soon!
