Bottom Chef

This is not a typical post from me. I can’t even be bothered to find images to accompany this one. I almost never post about reality tv shows, though I am a fan of many of them. I detest anything with singing or dancing, but throw a bunch of people into a house and/or creative competition and I am almost certainly there.

Top Chef has remained one of the best produced, most interesting, and creative shows in this genre. All of that changed last night. This episode was, by far, the worst of the series (and that’s saying something since Hosea was once named the winner…). Washington DC is, of course, a political town. Top Chef, however, did not have to “go there” with the whole school lunch thing. If anyone, First Lady included, thinks they can abolish childhood obesity in a generation (or twelve), they are delusional. For Top Chef to pay such respect to such bull truly diminished the spirit of the show. When the cheftestants of the first season were charged with creating lunch for children using monkfish, they had FUN. The teams were still able to cook healthy food, but without the OMG!NO MONEY FOR SCHOOL LUNCHES pity party hanging over their heads. Even the kids in this episode seemed bored.

This season is off to a very slow start overall. I spent the first episode thinking, “Shut up, Tim, you big baby,” only to have him redeem himself (at least temporarily) in this episode. Maybe I just hated everything else so much that even Tim didn’t bother me. I don’t know. I’ve never turned against a show so quickly (not even Lost), and I am hoping that this isn’t the end for this fandom. Get back to doing what you do right, show!

Instead, I got this…

lost-logo_0 A ten minute episode of LOST this week! Actually, it wasn’t worth 10 minutes, I just slowed it down to look at the dimples a few times. *sigh* I guess ABC doesn’t care whether we actually enjoy the show or not as long as we continue to DVR/watch it in some capacity.

The two-hour premiere of ANTM was lackluster and didn’t get better upon second viewing today. The first photo shoot was the worst concept yet….and that’s saying a lot. I’m sure it will get better, and some of the girls actually look like models this season, which is a drastic improvement over past seasons. I’d love to see an “All Star” Cycle. Yoanna would sooo take them all. True.

Top Chef will not be watched again until the next season. I can’t get over the rat face of Hosea. Maybe the judges had just watched that Ratatouille movie and were a bit too affected by it. This is the only season that I deleted from DVR, and I am so disappointed in the show. Really. I did, however, read that my votes counted and that Fabio won “Fan Favorite”. Sweet.

After my pitiful dinner of cous cous, I’m going to watch Survivor and call it a night. You should, too.

Finally, LOST

lost-logo_0I’m not going to lie; I loved this episode. Give me an hour of John Locke every week and maybe I’ll get all the way back on board. I guess Broyles Abaddon had to die because of “other” commitments. Heh. I’m cool with that. Too bad Adebisi HATED working on the show and will almost definitely not come back. Aww. Ooh, that person, that Locke saw, with the backpack? I nearly shed a little tear. For reals.

The Top Chef finale is airing right now, and as of right now, at 10:49pm, I don’t think I’m loving it.

Hate. Pussy out of making dessert and have it pay off? Fail, show. Fail.

This Week In Fandom

top-chef-thumbBoo! Top Chef sent the darling Fabio home and left cry-baby Hosea there. Let’s see, out of the last few chefs: Jamie-fun and lots of personality (GONE), Leah-female Hosea, blech (GONE), Fabio-cute and personable (GONE…boo). Chefs remaining: Stefan-hate if you want, I love his snarky style, Carla-literally crazy and fun, Hosea-a panting puppy (love me, love my food, huhuhu).

Lost was, apparently on this week. Survivor is still in the early rounds, so we don’t really get to know anyone yet. I think my love for Ugly Betty is now tainted by the news that America is a diva and very demanding on set. I’m not as into it as I was. TAR was good, but I’m already over the “human triumph” angle. Lose it…now. The SG-1 reruns on Sci-Fi finished Season 8 this week–undoubtedly the best shows I watched all week.

I’m holding my latest episode of Legend of the Seeker until I finish housework, otherwise, I’d probably be loving it in this very post.

In other news, I bought a Red Zune 80GB from a student this week. I’ve named it HobStar Red, and I’m debating giving HobStar to my brother, who has expressed a shocking interest in it. HobStar Red already contains everything that was on HobStar as well as all of S4 of Doctor Who. Gotta love that!
