I’d say I’m a casual fan of True Blood. I don’t feel the need to watch it each week, but I care enough to keep up. What I cannot keep up with is the crazy fandom. Apparently, the books (which I really do want to read) go off in even crazier directions than the show and Sookie ends up in quite a few romances (or possible romances). Since I’ve not read them yet, I’m still all about Bill and Sookie. I don’t get the overwhelming love for Eric, nor do I see any Eric/Lafayette AT ALL. I mean I’m as much a slash fan as anyone, but it’s just.not.there. Also? How can you not appreciate Bill with his Civil War era speech when he says things like this, “ARE YOU GONNA LEAVE OR AM I GONNA HAVE TO THROW YOU OUT…. THROUGH A WINDOW…. THAT IS CLOSED!”

I can name several “flaws” of the show, but they’re minor apart from the fact that many people miss big moments because the lighting is so off. I know things happen at night (especially when dealing with vampires), but the scenes could be just a little bit lighter, no?

I’m very interested to learn more about Barry now. This was meant to be the big “reveal” (or so they say), and without spoiling myself too much too soon, I can’t really snoop around to find out his significance. Drats!

Harper’s Island wrapped up its murderous spree last night. By its very nature, there were to be many, many, many deaths. Todd kind of got me thinking about the show a lot, and after looping episodes 1-11 all week, I pretty much figured it would end like it did. Well, not exactly how it did, but close enough. Nonetheless, I think I actually shouted, “You bastard!!” at the screen.

Summer has not been kind to my other fandoms. Robin Hood saw three major character deaths, several minor character deaths, and most likely as a result, was canceled. Torchwood had one major death and five equally emotionally hurtful deaths. True Blood, as of this writing, as not had any significant deaths, but it’s early in the season and I fully expect we’ll see at least one (especially since the Lafayette deal was supposed to have already expired).

R.I.P.

I’ve been on a three day bender and my cold is nearly gone, I’m not grumpy about work, and I’m actually quite pleasant to be around. I don’t really know why I love Nine so much, I just really, really do. Even the eps from Series 1 that I don’t particularly love (The Empty Child, The Doctor Dances) beat just about anything else on the tube. The picture here is actually a wallpaper from here. Amazing work!

I did take some time to catch S2 E1 of True Blood. Eh, it was alright. I don’t really love the show, but I’ll stick with it for a bit, especially since there isn’t much else on just yet.

I’m convinced that HBO’s new series, True Blood, is in fact, just Natural Born Killers with vampires. It’s got the same white-trash-montage in the credits and the same dirty feel. There’s plenty of gore, sex, and uncomfortable moments as the characters, none of which are particularly stellar, move among each scene with a low class desperation. That said, I won’t loop it, but I’ll watch it.

As for SGA, I’m glad it was canceled. This perverse sense of loyalty I have keeps me watching even though it feels like we’ve already seen every episode, some of them twice. Case in point: Last night, the team stumbled upon one of Michael’s labs. I’ve already said that Michael as an archenemy is a lame storyline, so imagine the fun of finding his lab, for the 2486th time. Wow. Actually, this episode was made better by the addition of a bunch of chicks, none of which we cared one bit about. Swell. Lest you think the fun was all wrapped up in last night’s episode, you get this to look forward to: Next week Teyla goes undercover on a Wraith ship because of her wraith properties…AGAIN.
