DC Saturday

pict0188.JPG Start out day by dressing Ben. Vultan costume rocks, but is torture to prepare. Looks amazing in the end! Put on Carter costume (basic compared to MANY costumes) and head down to the Walk of Fame (yes, again) because you can never see enough stars! Swoon over Cliff (yes, again). See Torri and Rachel. Wonder if 11 year old girls are impersonating them, as they are very tiny. Decide to save $40 since no pictures of or with them allowed. Hmmph. Loop around WoF some more. See what appears to be a tranny wearing a red strip of cloth covering gigantic boobs and crotch area. Learn it’s Lita. Snicker at Todd. Shudder inside. Go on promotional tour with Ben. Observe con-goers loving Ben’s costume. Watch Ben pose for pictures. Love it! After long while, break up and go to the hall for the next Stargate panel. In effort to reserve good seat for inevitably crowded SG panel, sit through AdultSwim panel. Feel confused. Finally, it’s time for SG panel with SG-1 AND SGA cast! Get thrown out. Wha?!? Forced to clear room. Feel cheated for sitting through previous panel for no reason. Sneak back in and get in second row anyway! Ha! Take much video and love listening to Torri beat herself up. Truly enjoy panel! Buy ticket to Virginia Hey’s Meditation Workshop and realize the need to purchase a longsleeved shirt. Go to exhibitor’s booth and buy Grima action figure for Fandom Room and really cool SG-1 longsleeved tee. Generally mill around and snoop out overyone.

Overall Saturday thoughts: I had an awesome time hanging out with Ben. He really got great response from the crowd and it made for tons of fun. I loved finding Jesse in time to see SG panel together. He finally saw why everyone loves Lorne :wink2: I didn’t really do much on Saturday other than the SG panel and IMing Di for hours. Yea 100th!

DC Friday, Part 2

pict0083.JPGCome down from high at the SG-1 panel, go with Ben to “An Hour With Virginia Hey”. Take cute video interview with Ben. Spend one hilarious hour listening to Virginia. Take video, but laugh too much to do a good job. She really is the master of circling the airport :wink2:. Split from Ben and go to panel titled “SG Fan Videos”. Make it (painfully) through 4 or 5 vids before feeling the overwhelming urge to run. Wonder why Steph’s vids weren’t used. Suffer severe disappointment. Snoop around for nothing specific and hang with Ben and Jesse.

Overall Friday thoughts: Friday was my favorite day for the Walk of Fame. With smaller crowds, there were less “restrictions” throughout the hall. The autographs were expensive, but pretty much worth it. I skipped several stars because of money concerns and the knowledge that they had a “No Pictures” policy (Torri Higginson, Rachel Luttrell, etc) If only we could have taken pictures on the spot (instead of scheduling a photo shoot), they would have each made $20-$30 more from lots of people. Food was a serious problem for me on Friday. Ben and Jesse scooted off to the mall for dinner, but I was still waiting to make our plans. I had cookies, I think. Prices for food were ridiculous and we began to devise a plan to counter the costs. Aside from my autographs and food, I didn’t even spend any money on Friday. I was surprised that I wasn’t overly disgusted with the crowds. I think the median age of con-goers is probably in the 30s, so maybe I just felt comfortable around my fellow geeks.

DC Friday, Part 1

Friday’s Wrap Up (Scattered Mode)

pict0051.JPGAfter breakfast, beg Ben and Jesse to go downstairs to the Walk of Fame. Walk into an exhibitor’s area (merchants). Turn the corner and see Cliff Simon! Go to Cliff’s table and lose the ability to function. Turn 12 years old and need help with getting money out of pocket for autograph. Make fool of self. Seriously. Get picture taken with Cliff. He asks if he’s met me before. I am convinced he dreams of me, too. Torri and Rachel aren’t there yet. Move to the table of Don S. Davis (General Hammond). Get autograph from super nice (and possibly drunk) Hammond. Walk past George Takei’s table for time-being. Turn the corner and see Nicholas Brenden attempting to wake up. Hover back a bit to give Xander time to get with it. See that it’s not going to happen. Approach anti-social Nicholas for autograph. Get a little depressed over Nicholas’ unfriendly manner. Skip over Firefly cast. Arrive at Virginia Hey’s table. Zhaan is kooky! Wait to get to Virginia. Zhaan is very kooky! Still wait. KOOKY! Get to Virginia. Wonder why Virginia acts as if we’ve known each other forever. After chatting for a loooooong time, get autograph and move on. Skip over Rip Taylor because, um, huh? Arrive at Peter Mayhew’s table. Chewbacca never speaks, just signs (unpersonalized) picture. Hmmph. Doubleback to David Prowse’s table. Darth Vader is super nice! Signs picture with awesome conversation, too. Turn another corner to see Iron Shiek, Captain Lou, and Virgil. Virgil is sad that I don’t want his autograph. Too bad. Next table is Tony Todd. Whoo! Take pics, but do not approach. Walk past Mickey Rooney and George Romero (been there, done that). See that Anthony Daniels is very popular. Everyone must love Threepio! Decide to leave Walk of Fame.

Return to room and see that picture with Cliff looks blurry and bad. Muster up another $10 to get another picture. Cliff insists on just taking as many pics as I want for no extra charge. It’s love. Can die happy. Meet up with Jesse to attend first panel, “Meet the Stars of Harry Potter”. No stars of HP are there, so we leave. Skip panels until 4:00pm and watch first SG-1 panel in total amazement. Cliff, Don, Erik Avari (Sha’re’s father), Bill Dow (Dr. Lee) joke about Teal’c and the others. Have video. Hammond says for the crowd, “SG-1, you have a go. Godspeed.” Nearly die of excitement.

*is dead*

Dragon*Con is just amazing. Stanislav cancelled, so there are no HP people here, but look what I got:

Cliff Simon (Baal) and Me!

I haven’t seen Torri Higginson or Rachel Luttrell yet, but they’re on the 4:00 panel, so it won’t be long now!

OH! Virginia Hey is conducting a meditation class that I’ve signed up for. I get to spend two hours with her on Sunday and let me just say, she is even more Zhaan-like in person! Love her!

More details later!
