Mark and I celebrated our first anniversary in Tennessee. Our first day was spent in Gatlinburg, where we once again enjoyed visiting The Village. We picked up a Welsh tee for Mark and some Dragon tea (which replaces the Dragon tea that was inadvertently tossed out when we returned home last time). We grabbed a quick lunch at The Hofbrauhaus Restaurant and Cheese Cupboard, and snagged some Cotswold cheese to bring home. There are about four cheeses in the world that I like and Cotswold is at the top of the list. Unfortunately, we can’t buy it in our neck of the woods, so it’s always great to find it on one of our adventures. We spent the rest of the day shopping for whiskey and car decals. And whiskey again. Oh, and then we had pastries. Awesome!

The rest of our vacation included dinner at Smokey Mountain Brewery, dinner at The Roaming Gnome Pub, great days and eats at Dollywood, and some quality time with my family at The Island.

Our actual anniversary dinner, on July 4th, was at Margaritaville Pigeon Forge. With the intense heat wave that hit TN, it really felt like we were in Florida. The food was great (especially the grouper) and the company was the best.

Being married for one year makes me look forward to all the anniversaries to come and all the adventures along the way!

  17. Les adherents du parti Les Republicains sont appeles a voter, samedi et dimanche, pour choisir leur futur president. Mais entre Bruno Retailleau et Laurent Wauquiez, peu de differences ideologiques existent : a l’image de ce qu’est devenu leur parti depuis 2017, tous deux font campagne a droite toute en misant sur les questions d’immigration et de securite.

    Apres plusieurs semaines de campagne, difficile de savoir qui de Bruno Retailleau ou Laurent Wauquiez remportera la presidence du parti Les Republicains (LR). Les adherents du parti de droite sont invites a les departager, samedi 17 et dimanche 18 mai, pour choisir celui qui incarnera desormais LR, avec en toile de fond l’election presidentielle de 2027.

    Mais comment choisir entre deux candidats presentant si peu de differences de ligne ideologique ? Bruno Retailleau et Laurent Wauquiez placent constamment l’immigration et la securite au centre de leurs discours. Si bien que pour exister face a un candidat-ministre devenu favori et omnipresent dans les medias, l’ancien president de la region Auvergne-Rhone-Alpes s’est senti oblige de jouer la surenchere en proposant, le 8 avril dans le JDNews, “que les etrangers dangereux sous OQTF de quitter le territoire francais] soient enfermes dans un centre de retention a Saint-Pierre-et-Miquelon, hors de l’Hexagone”.

    Kate Winslet is sharing an anecdote about a “wonderful” encounter she recently had with someone from her star-making blockbuster film “Titanic.”

    The Oscar winner was a guest on “The Graham Norton Show” this week, where she discussed her new film “Lee,” in which she plays the fashion model-turned-war photographer Lee Miller from the World War II era.

    Winslet recounted that while she had previously executive produced a number of her projects, “Lee” was the first movie where she served as a full-on producer. That required her involvement from “beginning to end,” including when the film was scored in post-production.

    She explained to Norton that when she attended the recording of the film’s score in London, while looking at the 120-piece orchestra, she saw someone who looked mighty familiar to her.

    “I’m looking at this violinist and I thought, ‘I know that face!’” she said.

    At one point, other musicians in the orchestra pointed to him while mouthing, “It’s him!” to her, and it continued to nag at Winslet, prompting her to wonder, “Am I related to this person? Who is this person?”

    Finally, at the end of the day, the “Reader” star went in to where the orchestra was to meet the mystery violinist, and she was delighted to realize he was one of the violinists who played on the ill-fated Titanic ocean liner as it sank in James Cameron’s classic 1997 film.
    “It was that guy!” Winslet exclaimed this week, later adding, “it was just wonderful” to see him again.

    “We had so many moments like that in the film, where people I’ve either worked with before, or really known for a long time, kind of grown up in the industry with, they just showed up for me, and it was incredible.”

    “Lee” released in theaters in late September, and is available to rent or buy on AppleTV+ or Amazon Prime.
