Did I Miss Something?

I saw Twilight. Honestly, I did. I even have the ticket stub to prove it. Why, then, am I reading about people’s favorite parts being scenes that I never even saw in the movie? I think I must have blanked during many parts of the movie. Apparently there was something about the 50s that I totally missed. I also missed where Edward bit Bella, unless they’re referring to the after-James fallout. Hmmph.

My next “huh?” is about Pushing Daisies. So, Chuck’s name is Charlotte Charles. Her father’s name is Charles Charles. Her aunt’s names are Lily and Vivian Charles. Vivian was engaged to Charles Charles and Lily, well, you know. So, um, why are they all named “Charles”? Is it just one of those small town quirks where the last name is common even though the people aren’t actually related? I just got to thinking that it was odd. Also? What’s Ned’s last name? Hmmm.

I’m Back

Thanks to Flo, I’ve now read and watched Twilight.  If I was still a teenager, I think I would be in love right now.  As it is, however, we laughed.  A lot.  Inappropriately.  Ha!  To be fair, most of the audience in the theatre laughed along with us, so it’s not just that we’re getting old.  We wore our “Cullen Boys” shirts and I was pleasantly surprised to see that there were quite a few adults in attendance.  We struck up a conversation with the ladies behind us and found out they are English teachers and have enjoyed the books, but wanted to know if the film would help or hurt their chances of convincing more teens to read.  Um, good luck, ladies.

Sean Bean finally returned to Crusoe this week.  I’m currently watching on Hulu, and I’m hoping it’s more than the cumulative 3.1 minutes we’ve had so far.  The show’s alright, I suppose, but let’s face it–I only watch for Bean.  SGA was another skip for me this week.  I watched the teaser that showed Shep and Ronon going camping, realized it was the McKay/Keller ep, and promptly deleted it from the DVR.  It still boggles my mind how this show managed to go from my #1 to an automatic delete.  Wow.  As usual, Merlin entertained, even though it was pretty much a filler episode.  Some relationships were heightened slightly, so I guess the ep had its merits.

I’ve been using the new WP for a month or so now, and with this newer version, I can use widgets.  I could never get them to work properly in the past, and to be honest, I didn’t care if they worked or not.  Now, however, you can hardly get through the directory without people calling their code “Plugins” but actually meaning “Widget”.  If you can’t run it as a plugin, you shouldn’t call it as such.  I think WP needs a separate “Widget” listing.  Luckily, some widget authors are willing to help you convert their code to standalone code, such as Peter from AVH Amazon, but most requests go unanswered.  There’s a widget that allows you to execute any standalone code, so to be assured that you can use that dandy new thing you’ve found, you’re almost bound to the use of widgets.  Grr, and OK.  As for the theme, if it won’t load properly, hit the site with a ctrl-f5 and that should do it.

Tuesday and Friday were snow days.  Hooray!  :cold:

Why So?

Alright, I’m watching it. So far, the only reason I can think that Heath Ledger is getting so much praise is that he’s the only character of any substance in the movie. Perhaps things will pick up, but it’s not looking too good.

[Edit: Two very enthusiastic thumbs down! Total waste of time.]

[Edit Edit: Oh, lord. I just just checked the time and there’s a whole hour left. Maybe there is hope.]

[Final Edit: Nope. Also, Bale’s Batman voice is incredibly annoying.See Edit #1]

Dark Prospect

Am I the only one in America who’s not interested in The Dark Knight?  There is absolutely no chance that I’ll see it in a theater, and there’s little chance that I’ll even dl it.  I’m sure it’s actually, you know, dark, as in brightness, and that doesn’t bode well for dl’s.  Meh.  Just tell me what happens and it will be as good as being there….better even.

SGA is on tonight.  Whoop-de-doo.  I used to love Fridays for that very reason, but this is a Keller ep, so, Bah!  Maybe I’ll hold today’s recordings of Voyager and watch them later instead.  Hey, either way, it’s a Picardo kind of night, no?  🙂

My grandmother came out of her surgery much better for it.  They removed some clots and infection and she’s on her way home.  Dad said we might try to make Mom go out for steak tonight, and I certainly hope we do.  There’s a new dish at Texas Steakhouse I want to try:

Coffee Rubbed Steak Skillet: Mesquite-grilled filet tips hand-seasoned with ground coffee and Texas spices served sizzlin’ hot over chipotle BBQ red-eye gravy on a bed of red bliss potatoes, sautéed mushrooms and spicy roasted corn ‘n peppers. Garnished with fresh sliced jalapeños for that added kick.

Yum.
