People of New York City: Lock up your children!

Tomorrow, and I are going to NYC for the weekend. With 40 students. Our role is that of chaparones, which basically means we get a free, all expenses paid trip. The group of students we’re taking is nearly a perfect group to travel with, as they are nice blend of theatre kids, goth kids, and the odd prep or two. We’re seeing two Broadway shows, Chicago and Lestat. After reading the reviews of Lestat, I can’t WAIT to see our kids’ reactions. Oh, it’s going to be gold. I think we’re spending the rest of our time traipsing around the city, but we’ll be in the Village mostly.

Anyone up for some souvenirs? I suck at buying things and have NO IDEA what to buy.

I’m a winner!

Thanks to everyone for the well-wishes. I did indeed surpass the score needed on the MAT yesterday.

The test was online, so we got our scores immediately. I wish the ACT was always that way, then my students wouldn’t have to face the agony of waiting 4-6 weeks for their scores. Anyway, I made it with no problem, but my brother had no idea what he was doing. He had stayed out until 2:30 am the night before and found out about the test mere hours before we left. His program requires a lower score than mine, however, and he far exceeded the requirement. We had a blast comparing test items on the way home (as for some inexplicable reason, they put the two of us in a lab alone and taking the same test). He kept using the defense of “I didn’t know you could cross-reference!!!” He seriously had no idea how to work the analogies. We had so much fun talking about it, we missed our exit off the interstate and ended up faaaaaaar away from home. Heh. It was really a great day for the Miller kids.

I’m off to monitor Hobbit, who seems to be a bit under the weather today. I’m sure she’ll be fine, but she needs a little TLC right not. I’m also going to finish Doctor Who 2005 and convince myself the forge ahead and accept Doctor Ten. Oh, and after hearing rumors of changes to The Amazing Race, I have to say that the last 5 minutes had me standing and cheering. Out of all the teams, I don’t hate any of them, but losing Ray and Yolanda wouldn’t hurt my feelings at all.

Test Anxiety

Today, I MOWED THE LAWN again. As in “greenery growing from the ground”. Sheesh. Tomorrow, I’m taking the MAT (Miller Analogies Test) for grad school. Apparently, it doesn’t matter that I already have a master’s degree and took the GRE (a MUCH more difficult test). I took the online sample test administered by the testing body and scored 40% better than the minimum required to be accepted, so it shouldn’t be a problem. My brother has to take it tomorrow, too. He’s going to bomb. Heh. He’s never read a book in his life and his vocabulary still consists of “Yo, Dawg, What Up, True Dat” and the like. Actually, he’s genius-level in terms of IQ and will probably do just fine. I think I’ll die if he outscores me.

For those viewing this on my site: New default theme, Doctor Who (of course) and new pics of Hobbit in the gallery.

Happy Tuesday!

Anniversary

Yesterday, Hobbit and I had our two year anniversary and I can’t believe it’s been that long. Here’s to many more years of great companionship.

I went and dl’d and burned all of Doctor Who. I’ve jumped one ep in advance of what’s aired on SciFi and I’m fighting the urge to watch all of them. I’m sure I’ll lose the battle to wait, especially since the new season has already begun on BBC. *le sigh*
