Take Notes

stargate02.jpgTo all current television shows: That is how you come back from hiatus. SGA has really shown that it stands alone as a show, but when it has the rare crossover ep, it’s done perfectly. Give us the gang we know and love, and throw in our all-time favorite (Jack), add the always welcomed Walter, don’t scrimp on the effects, and let everyone throw down. I couldn’t have made a better wishlist if I tried. Thanks, team, and thanks, Canada for getting it to us early!

Heroes was also awesome this week. I have made a complete turnaround in my intense dislike for a character to the point that she’s now one of my favorites. Brava, Claire. Well played! Mohinder, my dear, you have Sha’re’s your dad’s permission to, so go kick some serious butt now. Hiro, don’t let the ladies get in the way of your true destiny. Micah, off your mom, ok? Nathan, please fight Peter and win by a lot. Ooh, then cut his hair. Simone, are you getting decades older by the day? It’s called moisturizer and hair color. Look into it. Pixiegirl (Eden?), well done. Why haven’t you been useful until now? You’re awesome.

On a sad note, R.I.P. Robert Altman. Without you, how would my dad and I sing, “I would gladly pay you Tuesday for a hamburger today”? For anyone who hasn’t seen the 1980 film Popeye, do it ASAP and tell me you don’t feel as if you’re watching the likes of something you have never seen. A master in his field, he will be sorely missed.

There, but not back again

From TOR.net: This is an excerpt from an email that Peter Jackson sent in regarding the much-awaited movie of The Hobbit.

However last week, Mark Ordesky called Ken and told him that New Line would no longer be requiring our services on the Hobbit and the LOTR ‘prequel’. This was a courtesy call to let us know that the studio was now actively looking to hire another filmmaker for both projects.

This is just sad. You can read the whole article, but I think I speak outside of fandom when I say that Peter Jackson needs to be onboard for this one. He deserves to be onboard. I can hardly imagine that the LOTR movies would have been nearly as popular or well made without his obvious love and respect for the story.

Have I been a part of the “Let The Hobbit Happen” campaign from the start? Yes. Would I see The Hobbit without Peter Jackson’s magical touch? Probably not.

To quote Jackson’s email ending:

We got to go there – but not back again … 😥

Christmas a bit early

Since the holiday spirit seems to be ubiquitous these days, who am I to buck the trend?

New (and default) theme Stockings.

This is a little glimpse into what I think Hobbit, Istar, and I would like to see in our stockings this year. :elf:

[Edit: I was never much of a Trekkie. I watched Star Trek casually as a child, but never really got into the movies or mythology of the show. For some reason, TVLand is showing Trek marathons and can I just say, “WOW!” I’m loving it. A lot. Too much, maybe. I’m not in danger of adding it as a fandom fave, but I am thoroughly entertained by the retro-ivity of the show.]

Heroes News!

bscap0116.jpgI promise this isn’t going to turn into a Heroes worship site (ha ha, get it? *ahem*), but the news in Entertainment Weekly is that some dude named Zachary Quinto has been cast as Sylar and that the wonderfully talented Christopher Eccleston (currently #4 on my future husbands list) will be showing up in a “top-secret role”. Wow! I’m glad he’s not Sylar, because I really am a fan of bad guys biting it and now I won’t have to root for the badies. Or will I?!?

According to EW, we’ll see Sylar on November 27 where I believe he will even speak a line. CE isn’t going to appear until January, from previous reports, so unless he’s a part of Sylar (a vastly improved part), I don’t think we’ll have much of an idea who he is until he actually appears. Come on, January!
