I’ve Been Entertained By This?

Every year, we get list after list around this time.

This is my commentary on Entertainment Weekly’s 2010 Entertainers of the Year article. Keep in mind, that I offer only my opinion, and it is as true as I can possibly be.

[The auto-link for Affleck is for another, and better, Ben.]

1. Taylor Swift– Who?
2. Jon Hamm– Meh, ok.
3. Kanye West– Never.
4. Christopher Nolan–Tries too hard. Pass.
5. Kids of Modern Family— For about 22 seconds. Last year.
6. The Cast of The Social Network— A movie for and about people who think Facebook makes them relevant. NEWSFLASH! It doesn’t.
7. Lady Gaga– 24 years old? Reverse that, and I may believe it. Hag.
8. James Franco– Meh, maybe.
9. Katy Perry– Why does this person even exist. No.
10. Steig Larson–Author, apparently. Tagline in article reads, “Do you know anyone who hasn’t read the Millennium Trilogy?” My hand goes up.
11. Team Glee– For three episodes. Last year.
12. Ben Affleck– OK. My only positive response so far.
13. Suzanne Collins–Author. My other hand goes up.
14. The Men of The Good Wife— I’ll ask my great aunt; she’s the only person I know who would watch this.
15. Jaden and Willow Smith– CANCEL MY SUBSCRIPTION NOW.

Hopefully 2011 will have much more to offer.

Am I Alone?

Entertainment Weekly‘s cover story this week is about The Simpsons movie. I could not care less about that movie. Sure, I liked The Simpsons, about 20 years ago! I haven’t been impressed with the characters since they were featurettes on The Tracy Ullman Show. I honestly don’t get the love people have for the show, but I don’t mind it either.

Somewhat conversely, I do mind the ill-placed love people have for American Idol, which was also featured in EW. I never hear anyone say they actually like the show, but for some reason, it gets great ratings and has been renewed for multiple seasons. I think my basic problem with the show is that it seems to draw (for the most part) degenerate types. There’s no way I can state my opinion without it sounding horribly classist, so I’ll just leave it at that, but man, I’d love for that show to go away (or at least stop taking up space in entertainment magazines).

OK, Eureka’s coming on…gotta run.

DC and Everything Else

dahob.jpgIt’s great to be home with Da Hob!! I’m still collecting random thoughts about Dragon*Con. I’ll edit this post whenever they come to me. They’ll be in green, just so you know :wink2:.

SG-1 is going to be a Lucian Alliance ep next week….snore. Damn, I hate that whole storyline. A lot. This week’s ep was actually entertaining on many levels. I know the Daniel/Vala shippers are over the moon and Vala fans have to be happy for her getting her patches (JUST LIKE MINE!). SGA was good, but boring as can be. Next week looks to be a little better. Entertainment Weekly just put out the Fall TV guide, and all I can say is, “Thank goodness for cable!” In looking at the new shows, the only ones halfway appealing to me are on NBC, which due to FCC rules, I can’t get, so, YAY! I’ll get to go to bed as soon as I come home from work most nights! Hee!

Stars seen in non-panel situations: Virginia Hey (many times), Mickey Rooney (elevator ride), Kavan Smith (escalator ride), Anson Williams, Donnie Most, Kiran Shah (bar), Dean Haglund–Langly from Lone Gunmen fame (lobby), Rip Taylor (dinner).

Total amount of shwag: SG-1 Tee, Pirate print mug, “Bliss” White Flower Lei (By Virginia Hey) candle, Grima Wormtongue LOTR figure. Autograph pics of : Cliff Simon, Don S. Davis, Peter Mayhew, David Prowse, Virginia Hey, George Takei.**D’oh! Official Dragon*Con logo Tee.

Also: Items left in hotel room: Shampoo (from home) and my In Dreams shower cream. Dang it!

Two Guys and a Girl

This is going to be a very brief update. I am so sleepy that I can barely stay awake long enough to type two sentences. Went to Charleston to see Ben and meet his Jesse yesterday. They’re just about the perfect blend of similar/different in almost every way. I give it my full approval. 😉 After having Mexican, we went to the Dead Mall where I found a TTT Boromir, Captain of Gondor figure that I just :love::love:. I bought Hobbit a bunch of new toys and myself some jeans, magazines, and more Boromir toys in the form of AoME. We had Pizza Hut for dinner and then took the Entertainment Weekly trivia quizzes for Star Wars and general knowledge. Damn, we’re really smart. 😯 I’m sure I’ll have much more to say later, but for now, it’s naptime for me and Da Hob.
