The Secret

In less than two weeks, a show that I very much love returns: Merlin. This seems to be a love it or hate it show in most circles, but as long as it’s returning, I don’t really care what the haters say. I didn’t see what NBC did to it stateside because of my aforementioned difficulty in receiving local channels without altering my viewing habits and the inability to DVR the shows.

The new Series 2 trailer was just released and it did not disappoint. There seemed to be the development of a lot more peril than just the “monster of the week” we largely saw in Series 1. I think it’s not spoilery for me to say there was also a little romance. Oh, if they only knew….

Aside from watching the adorably dorky Merlin becoming more skilled as a sorcerer, I am most importantly awaiting the return of Lancelot (which happens, people, oh yes, it happens–possibly more than once).

Gravity, Party of One

Based primarily on Ben’s recommendation (and some twitter friends’ interest), I’m catching up on back episodes of Defying Gravity. I can’t say it’s one of my favorite shows, but I suppose it’s interesting enough.

The plot is very, very slow paced. Even the flashbacks aren’t particularly exciting, but remain interesting. Ajay is probably the first character to ever tug at my heartstrings so quickly and I guess I should be glad he’s where he is, but it’s just heartbreaking to watch. There are hints at a few mysteries, but the biggest one of all is what the hell happened to Malik Yoba, who used to be one of the hottest things in Hollywood. In a way, it’s refreshing that he doesn’t have to rely on his hotness to be a good actor, but then again, it never hurts.

I don’t think I’ll be staying up late on Sunday nights to watch first-run, but I will consider DVR and Hulu.

There’s no doubt in my mind that if I was still using any of my old themes for this site, I would totally have a “Being Human” theme. I seriously love these guys, and I can’t wait until the new series arrives. Sure, filming it is a great first step, but I’m ready NOW.

As much as I abhor Youtube, I saw this on one of my BH communities on LJ and felt compelled to not only watch, but add it here, as well. I may have even recruited a new fan in my dad. He asked for the “Must See” list of the moment and after I told him a very basic outline of the show, he asked, “Do they act like vampires, werewolves, and ghosts?” Apparently, since they do, at least at times, he’s in. Niiiice.

It’s Over

And just like that, my love of Warehouse 13 is over.

This show had so much going for it, but ruined the dynamic of the show by introducing a new recurring character, Claudia. I could initially excuse the cliche of adding a brilliant, disinterested emo kid, but the portrayal by the actress (who needs a voice coach to explain the difference in making sardonic comments and sounding like you’re vomiting in your mouth) was a major killing point. After talking to Ben, I started to become annoyed at the cliche as well, and now I’m just so full of disappointment that I can no longer watch.

As I said on twitter, it’s like they introduced their version of Scrappy-Doo waaaay too soon. The show didn’t need this extraneous character so soon; the cast was just beginning to take the show and run with it and now there’s this annoying young vomiter stinking up the Warehouse. If anything, what we needed to see was more of Leena, the mysterious, aura reading B&B proprietor. I mean, this cast boasts CCH Pounder for pete’s sake (no pun intended), and she gets fewer episodes than this Claudia? Not on my TV.
