Not much going on…

I signed up for 6 months of eHarmony.com. Hopefully, something good will come out of it. I’ve had several “matches” that I just don’t see the compatibility in, but I guess that’s why I need the service….my judgment isn’t too keen. *sigh* We’ll see…

One door closes…

It’s the time of year to be reflective and whatnot, right? Well, I was thinking about my so-called love life. Let’s look at this decade:

2000 For two weeks in July, my deal with Narayan was “official” but since we remained best friends, and even lived together until he moved to Seattle in December, I’m counting it.

2001 After a few random dates, I began dating Martin (in March/April). Now this one lasted until (very) early 2002, but that may appear to be more substantial than it actually was.

2002 After the whole Martin deal, not much happened until the end of June, thus beginning the Jason phase. This lasted only until (early) September, but it was still great because I realized that I wasn’t dead inside afterall.

2003 NOTHING. Aside from Fantasy World, I haven’t had so much as a date. Granted, I moved twice this year to different cities and states, but SHEESH!

Unless something drastic happens, this year is definitely going to end on a sour note. It looks like I’ll be puckering up…and not in a good way. *sigh*

More evidence of my growing Conservativism

I listen to NPR on the way to work every morning. This morning, they did a piece on the Minnesota judicial system. In order for a defendant in MN to receive the services of a public defender, they must pay a fee. Misdemeanors typically cost the defendant around $50. Here’s the part that gets me: There are people that argue against it! They say that the indigent people cannot afford to pay the fee. Well, guess what I say to those people. Don’t commit crimes! I mean, sheesh, if you can’t pay the nominal fee, then maybe you should re-think the whole criminal activity thing.

I’m tired of working to support others’ poor decisions. I’m tired of supporting children that aren’t mine. I’m tired of paying for the defense of men and women that assault other people or choose to use/sell drugs. I’m even tired of “loaning” money to loved ones who don’t get off their ass to get a job and make their OWN money.

I hate working, and the least I should be able to do is decide where my money goes.

I won first place!

On Halloween, one of the first-grade students I give therapy to didn’t have a costume to wear. He had seen the costume he wanted, but his daddy told him that he didn’t have any money. The dad said that he was getting a check on Friday and that he would “maybe be able to buy it and bring it to the school” in time for the school party.

Yeah right. I knew what that meant : This kid would have no costume. I told the little boy that if his dad didn’t make it to the school in time, to ask his teacher if he could come to the therapy room when it was time for them to get ready. Sure enough, at 1:00…knock, knock. “Miss Miller, my dad didn’t make it on time.” I had an entire roll of the brown paper handtowels that are used in the school bathrooms, so we went to work. It took about 20 minutes to get it right, but soon, we had a bonifide (looking) mummy standing right there. The little boy was so excited about his outfit.

We walked down to the gym, where the school was gathered for the party. Most of the kids had on the Scream costume, but there were also a lot of police and firemen. There was only one mummy, though. The principal asked for all of the people with SCARY costumes to come to the stage and enter the contest for SCARIEST. My student walked up to the stage like a true mummy and entered the contest. When the judging was complete—-First Place, THE MUMMY!!

Now I know there is no way that costume stayed intact on the busride home, but at least for the school party, I made a kid’s day. WHOO!
