I tried to watch Battlestar Galactica. I admit that it was a half-hearted attempt, but it was an attempt nonetheless. Actually, I tried a few times to watch BSG. Given that so many of my online fandom friends love it, I decided to give it a serious shot.
This has been excruciating. I have rarely been so bored in my life. I’m up to Season 1 Episode 11 and only once have I felt any investment in this show. It’s worse than watching paint dry; at least you know you’re going to get a result from the paint. This just drags on and on and on. There is one character, who happens to be a Cylon, who is so boring that any scene she appears in is poisoned. Boring on the ship; boring on Caprica; BORING!
Although Gaius is entertaining, the whole sexually-charged visions thing he has of his Cylon were played out in the first overextended scene of them getting it on, and frankly, I’m over it. Was this risquĂ© when the show first aired? I don’t think it was 1957, so I’d say, “No.” What then, is the point of boring us with repeated “oooh” scenes? Just let it go, already! Sheesh!
I’m still watching because of some slight interest in the Kara/Lee ship. Um, gals, when does it actually begin? So far, they’ve had about 10 scenes together and I don’t see it. As a matter of fact, as of this episode, we haven’t even seen Lee in about 6 episodes, so what’s up?!?
I only wish I could watch at 3x speeds to get this over with. Oh the things we do in the name of fandom. đź
ahahahaha you MUST be talking about Sharon. lol! Her character finally gets interesting around Season 4. :/ The writers pissed me off with all the missed potential of the show. That said, I loved the morality issues of the show – that’s what hooked me in, not so much with the action or adventure.
As for Kara & Lee… don’t get your hopes up – just giving you fair fair warning. The writers completely SCREW the ship. There’s enough to cling to if you’re a hopeless romantic like me, but the head writer for some idiotic reason didn’t see the romantic potential between the two. There’s a really great ep mid Season 3 centered around the two of them, but all the rest are just fleeting moments over the entire 4 (or 6 depending on how you count them) seasons.
I’m definitely going to stick with it. It’s all your fault, you know. I really want to see your new vids, so I *have* to watch. I really like Grace Park, and I even liked Boomer/Sharon, but yes, I was sooo bored. Of course, right after I posted this, she did a HUGE move that at least gave her some kind of oomph.
I’m really sad to know that about K/L, though. I was hoping for something big to be just around the corner for them. :evileye:
We have a snow day, so I’ll finish S2 today. Shouldn’t take me too long to finish up…I hope.
Oh actually, damn me for getting my finales confused. The S1 finale wasn’t what I was thinking of with Sharon… It’s S2 finale! Wait until you SEE that! heee!
Ok… never mind – again. I’m an idiot! I’m just gonna shut up ’cause I obviously can’t keep the seasons straight and I don’t wanna spoil you. But it was S1 finale. Thank god for the internet because all the seasons just blur together for me… now. lol
And what the hell *is* up with the episode/season numbering?!? Miniseries, movies, 2.0, 2.5, etc. ARRRRRRRRRRGH. đ
Ohh you must’ve just finished S1! Dude, that ending really did shock the hell out of me. Sharon does gradually grow more interesting but they also don’t use her as much in S2/3 so it’s a much better balance.
Also, I’m sorry, I didn’t mean to suck you in – ok, maybe a little! But the Pilots – they just ate my heart. I can’t help it!! What can I say, I like ships that are either A) underused (eowyn/faramir???) or B) doomed LOL
S2 is actually a really good Pilots season as far as their interactions go, but it’s just loads and loads of UST, jealousy and playful banter.
As far as numbering, yeah that’s a cluster fuck. There’s also a couple movie specials and webisodes in-between season. From what I’ve read it’s something to do with Sci-Fi wanting to air the seasons in 2 parts for better ratings?? And then S4 & 4.5 was because of the writers strike…
And on a WAY OT note: Last night I was thinking about what I wanted to do for my first Doctor Who video and I thought of a song to use. First thing I do when I think of a song for a vid is google it and search it on Youtube to see if it’s been used, how many times and if it has – is the video any good. Well… color me surprised when the first vid I found was YOURS! LOL I was thinking of doing “Is it any Wonder” hehehe! Great mind think I alike!
By all means, make that Doctor Who vid with the song. Mine is old and tired…I’d love to see a good one!!
pfff whatever! I love your video! :)) I got a bagillion songs I can use for DW anyway and I had no concrete idea for a vid at this point. I’m still waiting for something to just grab me and say “you MUST make this!” hehe
Oh and… Six (Baltar’s Cylon) gets a much much better storyline mid season two. I think the writers finally got the note that the fans were tired of seeing her do the same thing and surprisingly the actress does a good job pulling off the different versions of herself once they give her unique identities rather than just playing a copy of a copy.
